How Unrepentant Runs & Guild Info

Who runs stuff:

Community Leaders: The top leadership of Unrepentant. Currently Foulsoul and Dao Jones, their job is to manage the overall Unrepentant community across all games and branches. Not elected or appointed; we just sort of "fell into it". :D

Advisors: Assist the Community Leaders in managing the community by providing advice and counterpoints during decision discussions. They also escalate issues they see up to the CLs. They are appointed by the Community Leaders from within the community.

Branch Leaders: They run the respective branches of Unrepentant. They are the guild leaders, responsible for maintaining and growing our branches, and they handle most of the decisions specific to their game. They are selected by the Community Leaders & Advisors, but usually start as members who have an interest in a new game, and a willingness to lead there.

Branch Officers: Responsible for assisting the Branch Leaders with approving new applications, as well as ensuring we keep our gaming branches sufficiently sexy. They are selected by their Branch Leader.

Branch Leader and Branch Officer names are color-coded on the forums. You can see this key on the lower right side of our Portal: portal.php.

How stuff runs:

Basically, we run ourselves. Once you're a fully voted-in member you are presumed to be full of awesome, and thus we don't need to ride herd on you. Community Leadership is here to help set the tone; i.e. determine what rules should apply to everyone across the community. They only get involved in problems or decisions if they potentially affect everyone. Otherwise, Branch Leaders will generally handle most of the business day to day.

We do have rules, however, and those few we consider important we consider very important: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=81

The U is a big proponent of "do it yourself" when it comes to your fun*. If you're new, jump in Vent and say hello! We're a friendly bunch, and only a few of us bite. In game, don't be shy; we do want to team up with you. Lastly, if you want to take part in a raid or event, then set one up! Organize the event, schedule the raid, and get your fellow U interested.

This also extends to the rare conflicts we have. We understand that people will disagree and argue, and we're not going to scream at you for having (and strongly defending) your beliefs or opinions. However, it is expected that when you're done disagreeing you'll shake hands and walk away with no lingering negative mojo. Big kids can respectfully disagree; little kids hold grudges.

Remember: At the end of the day we are all equals here, so everyone's voice is valued, everyone's input is sought, and everyone's good times are our concern. Keep that in mind. Even leadership serves at the pleasure of the community, and while we may in our time here make decisions that are not popular with everyone, we must always acknowledge that the welfare of the community drives everything we do.

Last but not least: once you are a member here, you are a member in every game we play, now and for as long as you roll with us. So don't be shy to try out a new game!

Here's how we expect our branch leadership to operate.

Requirements for becoming an Unrepentant branch

Postby Dao Jones » Mon Jul 19, 2010 2:45 pm

Requirements for Becoming an Unrepentant Branch

In order for a game guild to be considered an "official" branch of Unrepentant, the following are expected:

1. An interest from within the community beyond a small handful of curious members.

2. There must be a Branch Leader from within the community. This Branch Leader must be a current member in good standing, active on the forums, and willing to commit 2-3 months to growing and expanding the branch. Community Leadership has the final approval on selecting a Branch Leader.

3. A group of Officers (to be selected by the Branch Leader) who will assist the BL in leading the branch, approving and voting on applications, and recruiting in and out of game.

4. A recruitment thread, approved by Community Leadership, and actively maintained by the branch guild membership.

5. A method for voting in new applications. The standard for Unrepentant is the following:

Three "Yes" votes is the *minimum* for acceptance into the community. It is up to the individual Branch Leader if they want to allow non-branch officer votes to count toward this, or if they want to require more than 3 votes.

Three "No" votes is the maximum for exclusion from the community. As above, it is up to the Branch Leader to set the house rule here. They can accept less than 3 No's, or accept No votes from other branch officers.

Branch Leaders wanting their own "house rules" should make a post in their officer sub-forum explicitly laying them out, and it is expected that any officer of a given branch understands the rules of admittance for their branch. In the absence of any "house rules" to the contrary, it is assumed that the "3 Yes/3 No" rule is what is used, and that these votes only count if made by a branch officer of that branch. In any event, no less than 3 "Yes" votes or more than 3 "No" votes should be required for any branch.

We have seen firsthand how powerful "good publicity" can be when a guild running our tag becomes well-liked and respected within the community. Likewise, we have seen *other* guilds gain notoriety in games for being poor sports or having unlikeable members, and we strongly wish to avoid muddying the good name and reputation of Unrepentant by having lackluster or problematic branches. While we always encourage members to try new games, we insist that no guilds be formed with the Unrepentant name without express permission of the Community Leadership. Doing so will at the very least require you to disband the guild immediately, and at the worst may lead to removal of the offending guild member from the Unrepentant community.

Expectations of Branch Leadership

Postby Dao Jones » Mon Jul 19, 2010 2:46 pm

Expectations of Branch Leadership

Branch Leaders:

1. Will be active in the Unrepentant Community forums. "Active" means "checks them daily". While you are not expected to be a post-happy troll, you are expected to be mindful of your branch's subforums, and respond swiftly to questions and concerns sent via tell, or posted in The Round Table or the Officer section of your game forum. Community Leadership should not have to chase you to get a question answered.

2. Will monitor applications to their respective branches, and monitor the conduct of your officers within said applications. You do not need to personally post in every application, but you need to make sure your applications are being reviewed and voted on in a timely manner. Additionally, you need to ensure the conduct of your officers in the application threads is appropriate to the manner in which the Unrepentant Community conducts itself. (I.e. - a little hazing is okay, but outright insulting or disrespectful behavior is frowned upon.)

3. Will work to prevent or swiftly resolve any "drama" that occurs within your branch. If you are unable or incapable of resolving a problem, you are expected to escalate it to the Community Leadership immediately. Furthermore, if you suspect a problem will reoccur or has not been fully resolved, you are asked again to inform Community Leadership of the issue.

4. Will follow all regulations for branch conduct as set down by the Community Leadership. This includes the Guild Charter and Rules as posted in the Town Crier section of these forums. It is your responsibility to ensure that your membership conduct themselves in the manner which we expect of our community.

5. You will, at any time and without question, hand your branch leadership over to another community member at the request of the Community Leadership.

Branch Officers:

1. Are expected to be active in the Unrepentant community forums. See Branch Leader #1.

2. Are expected to monitor and post within the application section of the forums. You are the guardians at the gate, and it is your responsibility to only let in the type of members we would want in *every* branch - not just yours. To that end, you are expected to use good judgment, and not simply vote in a candidate because you personally like or dislike them. The success of this community rests on your shoulders, so choose wisely.

3. Are expected to set an example both within your individual game, and within the community at large. In game, do not become a source of conflict. Attempt to bring members of the game together. Actively arrange group events for your branch. Be on the lookout for good alliance opportunities, or good players you meet in pugs.

4. Immediately notify your Branch Leader of any "drama" that occurs within the branch. Resolve it if you can do so, but notify your BL regardless.

5. Follow all rules as set out by your Branch Leader and the Community Leadership.
