ST:O Application (Obvious)

Postby Captain Obvious » Tue Mar 09, 2010 6:48 pm

Which branch(es) are you joining us in? (Aion, Champs, DDO, GA, STO):
ST:O but I hope to join you in SW:TOR as well.

Are you over 18? (you must be 18+ to apply)
I turned 30 last December

Are you a member of any other guild in that game?
I have been holding out on joining any fleets in ST:O until I could find one that would fit me best. I think I have.
What is the name/class/current level of the character(s) you intend to join with?
Captain 3 Obvious@General.Mayhem (Trill Tactical/Escort)
Lt. 5 Able@General.Mayhem (Joined Trill Engineer/Cruiser) - I don't play this character much usually only with my daughters character as a duo.

Do you have friends or family in the guild? If so what is their forum name?
No. This time I actually read AND comprehended the question.

Did you read our charter and rules? Which rules translation was your favorite?
I read both, the plain English version was my favorite since I didn't have to read each sentence 3 times and translate in my head. (I'm lazy like that).

But, '- blatherin' on like a total wazzock' was pretty amusing :)

Do you have an issue using Ventrilo? (Being able to at least listen is helpful for active participation in PvP/raids)
Been using Ventrillo since Quake 3. (Yes my gaming roots are mainly FPS, first MMO was DAoC)

Answer the following 4 questions. PROTIP: if your answer is shorter than the question, we will make fun of you for being boring.
1. What's the dumbest, funniest or most embarrassing thing you have ever done:
Literally 5 minutes ago (when I was answering this question) I accidentally hit SUBMIT instead of PREVIEW on this application and yelled 'NOOOOOOO' at my monitor. Really happy when I found the 'Delete Post' button. (sigh of relief)

When I got my first vehicle at the age of 16, parents bought me a 1990 S-10 Cameo, which I promptly backed into the house. (Come on, I walked through wet grass, it was a stick and WHO ARMOR-ALL's PEDALS?!?!) My mother was all excited and watched with a very horrified expression as I sped past her into the brick wall.

2. What is your Zombie Plan?
15 foot high cement/brick wall around a large house with no windows on the first floor. a 10 foot flammable moat for insurance. I want a 4x4 with reinforced exterior and a snow plow up front. I would also wear makeup and act like a zombie to scout around. Of course the obligatory pipe bomb with a loud beeping sound and a flashing light to attract zombies to it.

3. Tell us the story of why you will no longer drink <name of drink>:
Vodka + Bud Ice. At a bonfire party I went to take a leak in the woods, ended up all over one leg, thought it would be a good idea to straddle said bonfire and dry them out.......took a long time for all that hair to grow back and my hat/jacket reeked of burnt hair even after being washed.

4. Tell us something cool about yourself that has nothing to do with gaming:
I'm a project manager for a software company and get to badger my minions all day long.

I brainstorm a lot on a couple of books I really want to start writing but havent gone any further than just brainstorming.

I managed to turn my daughter into a total dork.

Quick survey! We will totally judge you by the answers you make below:
• Favorite Type of Music:
Everything but country, seriously, haven't all the dogs died and wives/girlfriends ditched those turds yet? I like KMFDM, Rammstein, GWar, Offspring, Disturbed, Marilyn Manson, NIN, Pantera, Aerosmith, Lords of Acid, Sister Machinegun, Nickleback, Moby, Pink Floyd, Bach, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Brahms, West Side Connection, Snoop Dog, Bone Thugs in Harmony, Puff Daddy, Natas, LL Cool J....gyea

• Favorite Movie:
Original Dune, Star Wars 4-6, Grandma's Boy, Super Troopers

• Favorite Book:
George Carlin's 'Brain Droppings', Terry Brooks many different Shannara series, Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series, Terry Goodkinds Sword of Truth series. Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy.

• Favorite Drink:
Water, it's cheap, low fat and great for splashing on the cat when it's into something it shouldn't be.

• Favorite Non MMO Game:
Mass Effect 1/2 & System Shock 1/2. If havent played either they are really good FPS RPG's with great stories behind them. Bioshock is the spiritual successor to System Shock FYI.

I have a 10.5 year old daughter (single father) who plays now and then. Chassidy@Princess.Mayhem.

When did the age requirement drop to 10yrs old?

Seriously? Country is about alot more than that. There's some great drinking songs in the genre.

Also flesh out your answers to the four questions abit. They're a little lacking.
I seem to have misplaced my commas. Can anyone spare a few?

Fleshed out a few things and corrected my 'misunderstanding' of that question. Sigh, I was trying to be intelligent and read each question all the way through before answering.

But aren't they always drinking because of previously mentioned dead dog or leaving wife/girlfriend?

Light beer is crap, I agree, but I need to stop gaining weight, none of my pants fit right anymore and I don't feel like buying new ones. And.....I should have added this to embarrassing moments question in the app:
I sat down a couple weeks ago and my belt buckle broke....really....probably a good indicator that the fast food diet was not working out :D. Even though my daughter, bless her, always insists, "Your NOT fat daddy!".

I went with Captain Obvious as my gaming 'nickname' about a year and a half ago, I also was playing on a paintball team and that is the name on my jersey as well. (Number is 42 of course). I have a penchant for stating the obvious so it was a good fit and I just hit Captain last night after some good PVP so now it's officially Captain Obvious.

There was mistake number one...
DDO - Jokasta - Nogood - Adicia - Sodoff - Catpain

Brain Droppings, that was a good book. I need to read some George Carlin again.
"Ever wonder about those people who spend $2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward."
"Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that."
Air travel.

I will say, though, that he was a lot funnier on stand-up than in text.
